Trained in psychology and interior design, Suz’s understanding of environments and relational connection inform her painting style. Her aim is to create work that feels embracing and captures a glimpse of the subject's true essence. Working from her home studio in Los Angeles, her rose garden serves as inspiration, the slow and organic rhythm and seasonality of the plants inform her artistic practice.
Suz focuses on organic shapes, skin like textures and color gradients. She employs mixed media to watercolor techniques, on paper and linen canvas. She loves the way the linen feels natural, untouched, and connected to the earth. In figurative work she seeks to create a reflection of an individual’s interior landscape. She sees a deep connection between floral and feminine forms. Her abstract work is inspired by many things from garden sunsets, to dance, to travel. She uses color and shapes to express feelings and movement. This work is intuitive and emotive for her.
“The guiding principle of my work is adoration. I paint what I adore. It’s the most natural thing in the world to respond to beauty, to follow it and seek it out. I desire to create a glimpse of the beauty that surrounds me.” ~ Suz
