Agathe Bouton

“Vue de la Vitre” is an intimate series of abstract landscapes composed of colored atmospheres that reference my vision of the outside world through a window. The series builds on my recent “Habitat and Urban Matter” series – where those works focused on the external façade of buildings, this series is looking out at the world from inside. The glass is sometimes altered by the weather which brings an imprecise vision to the view. The pane is a veil of imperfection, distorting the view and blurring its reading.

These windowpanes are found in industrial buildings and workshops which make up the urban landscape of North American cities. I took the shape for my format and added my hazy vision of a distant landscape. Sometimes I deconstructed the structure of the window and created a succession of different compositions. Each work is a print on paper mounted on canvas then reworked with washes of acrylic paint. I also use superpositions and different techniques to create a sense of layers and depth. This creates a play of overlays and light that allows us to see atmospheres rich in color and depth. Atmospheres that vary from day to day, and season to season.
