Inspired by the eloquent and lively music of the 1960’s and its efficacious voice for Cultural Revolution, as well as her own heritage from Bombay, India, visual artist Kavi has developed a distinctive and experimental artistic style. Her process involves a multi-layered approach which gives her the ability to encapsulate political phrases and poetry into each of her creative pieces. Kavi works with innovative new methods in photo collage, painting, and sculpture, and her art emphasizes intense texture by incorporating three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional spaces.

Q: HOW DOES YOUR INDIAN CULTURE PLAY INTO THE WORK YOU CREATE?

A: It is the base where everything evolves from. Everything in my work always has some form of Indian prayer or writing of some sort. You might not be able to always visibly see it, but it’s there.

Q: DO YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE CREATING WITH A CERTAIN MISSION IN MIND?

A: Yes, my mission is always to help people see something deeper. To really see beyond the surface and find new discoveries within my work.

Q: WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?

A: From my life experiences. Traveling helps me the most and meeting new people.
